Largely manufactured from recycled glass (e.g. windscreens) and mineral base materials such as sand and without the use of binding agents. The ingredients are melted into molten glass, which is cooled and crushed into a fine powder. The powdered glass is poured into molds and heated (below the melting point) in a "sintering" process that causes the particles to adhere to one another. Next, a small amount of finely ground carbon-black is added and the material is heated in a "cellulation" process. Here, the carbon reacts with oxygen, creating carbon dioxide, which creates the insulating bubbles in the (material). CO2 accounts for more than 99% of the gas in the cellular spaces.
Cellulose insulation is a material made from recycled newspaper. The paper is shredded and inorganic salts, such as boric acid, are added for resistance to fire, mould, insects and vermin. The insulation is installed either blown or damp-sprayed depending on application.
Wood fibre
The success of wood fibre insulation derives from an attractive environmental profile combined with a whole bag of functions including rigid insulation, sheathing and sarking for timber frames, roofs and flooring as well as flexible insulation for studs and rafters.
Wood of course is renewable, it sequesters carbon during its growth and product production is relatively free from pollution. The insulation value of wood fibre boards is not as dimensionally efficient as some of the orthodox petro-chemical materials - but it's no slouch either - typically coming in with a 'k value' range of between 0.038-0.043 W/mK depending on format.
Hemp
Hemp fibres are produced from hemp straw of the hemp plant. Most hemp is imported, but an increasing amount of home-grown crop is becoming available. Hemp grows up to a height of nearly 4 metres within a period of 100-120 days. Because the plants shade the soil, no chemical protection or toxic additives are required for hemp cultivation. The product is composed of, usually, 85% hemp fibre with the ballance made up of polyester binding and 3-5% soda added for fire proofing.
Straw
Straw is an agricultural by-product, the dry stalks of cereal plants, after the grain and chaff have been removed. Straw makes up about half of the yield of cereal crops such asbarley, oats, rice, rye and wheat.

The board has smooth grey surface and is available in two basic finishes unsanded which is suitable for many decorative finishes and calibrated which is sanded on both sides. Versapanel is a highly durable cement bonded particle building board that can be used in external and internal applications due to its flexibility and easily nailed, screwed, drilled, routed, sanded, planed or sawn.
EASYBOARD®
Easy board is a A1 non-combustible exterior grade fibre cement board with mesh reinforcing facings for use on external sheathing and tile backer applications. It is one the first boards of its kind to combine the benefits of Ordinary Portland Cement into a lightweight ‘score & snap’ building board that is quick to install when compared to traditional OPC boards. It can be readily fixed with self-wing drilling screws and simply installed using a traditional utility knife. It is inorganic making it very dimensionally stable when compared with traditional wood based boards. It is manufactured in 12.5mm thickness and has a taper on the two long edges of the outer face. Please note, Easyboard® should be primed prior to tiling with alkaline tolerant primer. When using Easyboard® as a floor tile substrate it is recommended that the board is fully supported. Maximum tile weight for walls should not exceed more than 50 kg/m2 and for floors 100kg/m2. A suitable breather membrane should be used when using Easyboard® as a sheathing board.
VERSAFLOOR®
Versafloor® is a cement bonded particle board manufactured to BS EN 634-1 and BS EN 634-2, intended for internal use which has very high levels of performance in the presence of moisture and has high resistance to fire. Versafloor is manufactured using Versapanel cement bonded particle board which is a high performance building material having the properties of fire resistance, high performance in the presence of moisture and high acoustic performance. Versafloor® can be used in any number of applications such as floor renovations, modular flooring systems or mezzanine floors. It can be supplied
with the standard unsanded finish with square edge or tongue and groove applied to two or four edges. Versafloor® panel sizes can be produced to suit client requirements and layouts but standard stock sizes are 1200 x 600mm and 1200 x 1200mm.
VERSABACKER®
Versabacker® is a water resistant tile backer board that will not swell, rot or degrade over time and can accept a number of finishes including wall and floor tiles. Versabacker® Tile Backer Board achieves its superior strength and flexibility by the introduction of two layers of alkaline resistant glass fibre mesh. It is manufactured using inorganic substances and alkaline resistant fibreglass mesh. The product is naturally cured using no energy through cold fusion unlike similar competitive products on the market which use autoclaving technology. It can be used in applications such as bathroom, kitchen, swimming pool or underfloor heating systems. Versabacker boards also provide an excellent compatible surface to a wide range of finishing materials i.e. paints, tiles, veneers or laminates. Moreover, it provides a high level of thermal movements during hot and cold cycles (Thermal Shock) and is resistant to rodent infestation like mice, rats and insects. Euroform Versabacker® is supplied in size 1200 x 800mm as a rectangular board with square edges and white in colour.
