REFLECTIVE FOIL INSULATION

Reflective foil insulation, also called multilayer foil insulation is a new type of insulating product that consist of a 80% foam core with an aluminium laminate each side that allows you to create much more comfortable garage space. The way it works is, instead of slowing down heat transfer the way traditional insulation does, foil actually blocks 97% of energy transfer in and out of the door structure. Reflective foil insulation was introduced onto the market as a smart thermal insulation material. This material is clean, lightweight, recycled and more important - 5.5mm thick. An air space is needed for a radiant barrier to work. By definition, you must have a void for radiant heat to even exist. If you don’t have an air space then you are basically dealing with conduction. Unlike conduction, reflective foil insulation in order to work they need space to block heat. Research indicates that foil insulation works best when it is placed near the heat source. This means that gluing it to the garage door surface is the best way to keep cold out of the garage.
