Knauf is part of the Knauf Group, one of the largest independent building and insulating materials groups in the world, employing around 35,000 staff in over 86 countries and more than 250 production facilities. KNAUF® is the largest producer of plasterboard in the UK. In fact, the company invested more than £100 million in the most advanced manufacturing technology to make one of the largest suppliers of gypsum-based building materials in the UK. The company was founded by Brothers Karl and Alfons Knauf in 1932 after securing the right to mine gypsum deposits in the Schengen community in Germany.

A year later, Knauf built its first gypsum factory in Perl, southwest Germany. The UK business began in 1988 when the Knauf Group built a plasterboard factory in Sittingbourne, Kent. Two years later, the company opened a second plasterboard plant in North East Lincolnshire. Immingham was extended in 2006, massively increasing its capacity. The latest energy management technology was incorporated, the whole plant insulated and two huge heat exchangers added, saving 10% of the plant's energy requirements. Both factories operate 365 days a year and have the capability to produce the complete range of Knauf Plasterboards, Thermal Laminates and foil backed Plasterboards. The production system, which was engineered and designed using the most modern manufacturing technologies, enables the production of a wide range of superior quality standard and high performance plasterboards and insulating laminates.

KNAUF ECOSE^® TECHNOLOGY

ECOSE^® Technology is Knauf unique bio-based binder which is used in the manufacture of all Knauf Glass Mineral Wool products and the majority of Rock Mineral Wool products.

The Knauf Mineral Wool made with ECOSE^® Technology contains no added formaldehyde or phenol. This means insulation generates very low levels of dust, increasing the comfort of those handling it. ECOSE^® Technology makes insulation soft to touch and easy to handle.

Moreover, it is made from natural raw materials that are rapidly renewable and is 70% less energy intensive to manufacture than traditional binders, so it is kinder to the environment too.

Products manufactured using ECOSE^® Technology have a natural brown colour so you can see, as well as feel the difference.
