INSTALLATION TAPE

Installation tape is a general name of either aluminium, seam, waterproof, sealing, PVC, DPM, BOPP, vapour barrier, butyl or heat resistant tape that can be used to insulate wiring, breather membrane, VCL barrier, heat pipes, PIR boards or damp proof membrane. ALUMINIUM FOIL TAPE

Aluminum tin foil tape is a high tack, instant grab polymer film designed to protect insulation materials such as PIR rigid boards, foil faced fibre glass, mineral wool, pipes, air ducts, from moisture intrusion, effects of dust and temperature fluctuations and isolate against heat and cold. Aluminium tape is resistant against heat, cold and provides highest security for critical conditions and will not decrease in size with advanced age. This thick aluminium foil is also perfect for heavy duty applications such as heating, air conditioning ducts and exhaust systems and as a repair kit on tears on truck trailers and aircraft. This self-adhesive aluminium tape is certified to the Class ‘O’ standard of fire resistance too and is a popular choice in the HVAC industry for the sealing of joints and jointing of aluminium insulation boards. It bonds to a variety of other different surfaces including woods, metals and plastics. The tape is backed with a strong polythene coated release paper. Tapes tack rubber resin adhesive will provide a clean, durable finish. The foil is pliable, and can be readily bent or wrapped around objects and it comes in a shiny side and a matte side. It is service temperature ranges from -20°C to +110°C and is available in 50mm, 75mm and 100mm widths. The self-adhesive aluminium foil comes in 4 thicknesses (microns μ): 30μ, 40μ, 50μ and thick aluminium tape-100 microns. The higher the micron number is, the thicker the material, therefore the higher tensile strength would be. Most popular aluminium seam tape sizes are 75mm and 100mm. VAPOUR CONTROL LAYERS TAPE

Vapour control layer tape known as a 'vapour seal' is designed for wind up over the face of vapour control layer membrane joints. It stops the penetration of water vapour through the membrane joint, effectively ensuring that the vapour cannot condensate on the cold side of the insulation. Tape can be used in a wide range of applications where products or installations need to be sealed against air and water ingress. It has been made with a cold weather solvent acrylic adhesive to help create a tape that you can use regardless of temperature. It is cost effective, non-toxic and requires no tools to apply. VCL membranes are sealed using one of our double-sided butyl tape generally using an overlap of 75mm to 100mm, but with certain products we do state that a larger overlap is required. The wider the tape used, then the stronger the seal will be. To improve overall air tightness, butyl tape is pre-applied to any studs or timbers at the points where fixing is to be made. By preparing the fixing point in this way, when staples etc are applied to either the membrane itself or the final wall covering such as plasterboard, then the achieved seal will be far better.

BREATHER MEMBRANE TAPE

Breather membranes tape is a a very sticky, jointing film made from non woven material, similar to the breather membrane and it is suitable for sealing laps on external breather membranes within both roof and wall applications to create an airtight and rainproof seal on all types of roofing underlay. It is also suitable for sealing patch repair. Ideally lap-joints on breathable membranes should be sealed using our 50mm or 100mm double-sided adhesive. Whilst not strictly necessary in order for these products to do the job required of them, by taping joints in this way air-leakage and general waterproofing are greatly improved. Most popular breather membrane tapes used in the UK are: Easytrim, Novia and Tyvek.

BREATHER MEMBRANE TAPE INSTALLATION

Lay the first piece of breathable membrane and then it's easy to unroll the sticky tape along your desired 'line'. Don't reveal the other side of the tape until you have the 2nd piece of membrane in place. Once the 2nd membrane is where you want it and nailed, reveil the other side of the tape and pat the membrane down. It's very difficult to separate the membrane afterwards. 

DPM TAPE

DPM tape known as  a 'tanking sealant' is a type of damp proof seal designed for sealing over the face of DPMs joints. It is also suitable for other sheeting applications such as patching repairs, sealing and bonding dissimilar materials. Tape simply stops the potential for any screed to sit between the two sections of DPM and cause issues. Novia Metallised BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) tape is a great example of high tack, reflective tape that can be used in damp proofing applications. Best known DPM tapes used in the UK are: Visqueen, Mammoth and Novia. All brands offer pressure-sensitive tapes with the same available standard widths such as 50mm, 75mm or 100mm.
