STEEL AND TIMBER FRAME PHENOLIC BOARDS

Steel and timber frame phenolic board is a superior performance phenolic insulation with a Euroclass B classification. It is faced with low emissivity foil facings on both sides and has a Lambda value of 0.020 W/mK. Its reflective, low emissivity surface improves the thermal resistance of any unventilated cavity adjacent to the board. It has been designed for use with steel or timber frame applications up to 18m in height. With a Euroclass B Fire Classification the framing board can be used between studs or as an insulated sheathing board. Choosing the best steel and timber frame insulation boards is important for any project. As you would expect from phenolic core, boards are manufactured with a blowing agent that has zero ODP and low GWP. The most common thicknesses are: 50mm, 60mm, 75mm, 80mm, 100mm and 120mm. 

STEEL FRAME SYSTEM

Steel framed system buildings constructed using a steel framed system are insulated on the outer side of the construction creating a ‘Warm Frame’, reducing the risk of condensation. Phenolic insulation solutions are designed not only to insulate but also to protect the steel from the heat of a fire. This delays the loss of structural integrity and the possible collapse of the building, allowing extra time for both the occupants to escape and fire services to tackle the fire.

TIMBER FRAME SYSTEM

It's estimated around a quarter of all new builds in the UK, including self build homes, are built using timber frame construction. Timber frame construction uses timber studs within the external structural wall to carry the loads imposed before transmitting them to the foundations. Timber frame buildings include the walls, floors and roofs, which are designed as a whole, coherent engineered structure. Timber frames incorporate a number of elements such as breather membrane, OSB board, VCL membrane and Phenolic or PIR rigid boards. Timber frame, by its nature, is more prone to heat fluctuations as it has less mass than a block built home. This means timber frame homes need to be well-insulated, and these elements need to be considered in the budget. Thankfully, timber frame construction lends itself well to this.
