FLEXIBLE PLASTERBOARD
Flexible plasterboard referred to as 'curved board' is a thin, sturdy, lightweight and pliable board designed to build curved ceilings and walls. Its core is a high density gypsum reinforced with chopped strands of glass fibre and it bends down to a minimum 600mm radius. The core is also encased in a strong 100% recycled paper liner, with recessed long edges enclosed within a complete paper fold. Board offers all-round performance, often seen used to create imaginative spaces with a striking aesthetic impact. Flexible plasterboard goes by many names such as V-cut board, curve board or 6mm bend drywall and it is suitable for constructing all forms of curved partition and ceilings, arches and feature panels. Moreover, it may be cut using the ‘score and snap’ method and plastered with either Thistle Board Finish, Thistle Multi-Finish or Thistle Durafinish. Flexible boards are made by well known manufacturers such as British Gypsum (Glasroc F MultiBoard), V-Cut (Flexiboard), Siniat (GTEC Contour) and Knauf (Flexiboard®). All boards produce a smooth flush finish when jointed, providing a consistent curved surface that accepts a wide range of decorative finishes. Boards may come yellow or off white measuring 6 x 1200 x 2400mm or 6.6 x 1200 x 3600mm.
HOW TO CURVE PLASTERBOARD
There are 2 types of drywall: regular and flexible plasterboard. If you tend to bend standard plasterboard you must use the thinnest possible thickness such as 9mm. First, you should wet the back of the wallboard and you should do this at least 3 times and let it soak each time for about 45minutes for the first two steps. After the third time wait aprox 15 min. Then curve the board around the radius you need. If you see some flat spots just go back and shape it. You want to do that when it is still wet. Make sure you leave some pieces of heavy wood on the end to keep it around the curve (radius you need) and let it sit and dry. When it is completely dried out from the water it stays curved.
