FOUL BACKED VAPOUR PANEL

FOIL BACKED PLASTERBOARD / VAPOUR PANEL

Foil backed plasterboard called 'vapour panel' or 'vapourshield' is a layered plasterboard with a metallised silver polyester foil face designed to create a vapour barrier to effectively control and limit any moisture diffusion. It is ideal for lining the internal side of the external walls or places where warm and cold elements of walls and ceilings join. Foil backed plasterboard thickness ranges from 12.5mm to 15mm with a thermal conductivity of 0.16 W/mK and is supplied as grey or ivory board in 2400mm x 1200mm (4’x 8’) and 1800mm x 900mm panels with coverage of 2.88m2 and 1.62m2. The vapourshield boards come either square edge (SE) finish for direct plaster application or tapered edge (TE) for taping jointing finish. Both types of plasterboard require jointing tape to be used to bridge the gaps between sheets of board. Its approximate weight is 24kg and should be mainly used in rooms where the air humidity behind boards reaches no more than 85% for 12 hours a day. This simple product is easy to cut and install. It may be cut using the ‘score and snap’ method and can be applied to a variety of applications within a building. Foil backed plasterboard is designed to suit different construction needs including partitions, linings & ceilings with standard performance requirements. One of the advantages of using vapour plasterboard is that you can hide unsightly wires and protect from moisture in one single operation. The average time needed to install vapour plasterboard manually is the same as with standard plasterboard and it is 1minute and 24sec (considered 3 workers).

FOIL BACKED VAPOUR PANEL MANUFACTURERS

Foil backed plasterboard is often associated with Knauf or Siniat brands. Knauf vapour panel complies fully with BS1230 Part 1 1985 and offers superior vapour resistance performance which make it ideal for garage ceilings, stud partitions, lining systems and ceiling systems. Siniat GTEC contains aerated calcium sulphate di-hydrate and offers 2 extra lengths: 2700mm x 1200mm and 3000mm x 1200mm. Most UK ceilings are a standard height of 2.4m, so this shouldn’t be a problem for the majority of homes that is why Knauf is bought more often. While GTEC Vapour Board is coloured ivory on the front, Knauf is coloured grey.

FOIL BACKED PLASTERBOARD PRICE

The cost (prices) of manufacturing vapour plasterboard is considered linearly proportional to its size and thickness. The 12.5mm thick, 1200mm x 900mm size vapour panel cost as of 2022 £9.50+VAT and is the lowest compared price board to the thicker 15mm sheets. On the other hand 2400mm x 1200mm size is commonly used in the UK costing £14.07 which results in £4.88 per m2. All sizes can be sourced from popular building merchants such as Wickes, B&Q, Selco, Jewson or us.
