MASONRY CAVITY WALLS

• PARTIAL FILL CAVITY SLAB 

HP Partial Fill Cavity Slab is a semi-rigid partial fill insulation solution for masonry and framed cavity wall construction. It is designed to withstand typical conditions on-site and absorb any irregularities on the inner leaf. Consists of a robust outer surface engineered to a resilient inner face. The slabs knit together when tightly butt jointed, eliminating heat loss caused by gaps.

Applications

Buildings up to and including 12 metres:

a. The product can be used in any exposure zone where a residual cavity width of 50mm or greater is maintained. However, the use of the product does not preclude the need to apply any external render coat or other suitable finish in severe exposure zones where such application would be normal practice.

b. The minimum residual cavity width to be maintained during construction must be 25mm. To achieve this requirement, a greater nominal residual cavity width may need to be specified at the design stage to allow for inaccuracies inherent in the building process (a residual cavity nominally 50mm wide will be required by the NHBC where normal standards of tolerance and workmanship are adopted).

Buildings over 12 metres in height:

The width of the residual clear cavity to be achieved should be a minimum of 50mm, and the following requirements apply:

a. From ground level, the maximum height of continuous cavity walls must not exceed 12 metres.

b. Above 12 metres, the maximum height of continuous cavity walls must not exceed 7 metres.

c. In both cases breaks should be in the form of continuous horizontal cavity trays discharging to the outside.

d. Where the cavity width is reduced for structural reasons, e.g. by the intrusion of ring beams, a minimum residual cavity width of 25mm must be maintained and extra care must be taken with fixings and weatherproofing, e.g. the inclusion of a cavity tray.

• FULL FILL CAVITY BATT

ROCKWOOL Cavity Batts provide thermal protection for external masonry walls, and thermal and sound protection within masonry party walls, between dwellings. The batts are quick and easy to accurately cut, and provide a great fit; reducing installation time, avoiding gaps and cold spots, and maximising long term performance. ROCKWOOL Cavity Batts are also used in masonry party walls to prevent the thermal bypass effect, and so achieve a zero U-value, while also providing the required sound protection and fire resistance. ROCKWOOL Cavity has been examined by the British Board of Agrément (BBA) and granted Certificate 94/3079 for use in all exposure zones for domestic and non-domestic buildings that are up 25m in height. Building standards have also recognised that where party cavity-walls between connected buildings are untreated, considerable heat can escape through them. Using ROCKWOOL Cavity Batt to fully fill the party wall will reduce the u-value to 0.00 W/m2 K.

Applications

ROCKWOOL Cavity is batts are used for thermal insulation of external masonry cavity walls, and for the thermal insulation and acoustic protection of masonry party walls between dwellings.

• ROCKCLOSE® INSULATED DPC

ROCKCLOSE® is an insulated cavity closer. The product is designed to minimise thermal bridging around windows and doors in first-fix cavity wall installations with a returning inside leaf. Designed to be installed as work proceeds between the outer masonry leaf and internal closer block prior to the frames being fitted. The product consists of a strip of semirigid non-combustible ROCKWOOL insulation, bonded to a black polyethylene DPC.

Applications

ROCKCLOSE® has been specifically developed to minimise thermal bridging at door and window reveals whilst also providing a fire-resistant cavity closer. The effect of thermal bridging has been a long-recognised problem, which has been given even greater significance under the new Part L Building Regulations. In a typical building, as much as 20% heat loss can occur around the door and window reveals if not correctly addressed. Building Regulations require that thermal bridges that occur at junctions between building elements are included in the calculation of transmission heat losses.

• ROCKWOOL TCB & PWCB

ROCKWOOL TCB & PWCB cavity barriers are manufactured from non-combustible stone wool, encapsulated within a resilient polythene sleeve which eliminates the need for weather protection during installation. The sleeves are also colour-coded to differentiate between the two products, TCB’s being red and PWCB’s white.

Applications

ROCKWOOL TCB & PWCB Cavity barriers can be used in both vertical and horizontal applications, providing an effective fire, acoustic and thermal barrier within external wall cavities and separating party walls. All ROCKWOOL Cavity barriers are 1200mm long and are designed to be compression fitted within the cavity (min 10mm-15mm compression). The barriers do not rely on the polythene flanges to hold them in place in the event of a fire. It is essential that the correct cavity barrier size is specified to suit the as-built cavity width. TCB & PWCB cavity barriers are available in a range of thicknesses to suit cavity widths.

SLAB RANGE

• RWA45

ROCKWOOL RWA45 Slabs can be applied to an array of general building applications for acoustic, thermal and fire protection of partition walls, ceilings, floors and roofs. Available in a range of thicknesses and densities from 45 to 140 kg/m3, the slabs can also be black or white tissue faced, or foil faced, to one or both sides. ROCKWOOL RW Slabs conform to: BS EN 13162:2012: Thermal insulation products for buildings. Factory made mineral wool (MW) products.

ROCKWOOL RWA45 slabs can be used for a wide range of applications, which include acoustic and fire insulation for partitions and ceilings, as well as thermal insulation for floors, walls, and roofs.

• RW6

ROCKWOOL RW6 slab is a robust insulation solution for a range of general building projects as well as specialist specifications such as commercial, leisure, industrial buildings and more. The insulation provides excellent acoustic, thermal and fire performance.

ROCKWOOL RW6 slabs can be used for a wide range of applications, which include acoustic and fire insulation for partitions and ceilings, as well as thermal insulation for floors, walls, and roofs.

• RW5

ROCKWOOL RW5 are versatile building slabs for a wide range of general building applications, ROCKWOOL RW5 semi-rigid and rigid slabs are high quality resin bonded slabs that can be used for thermal, acoustic and fire resistant insulation in general building applications. The slabs are available in a wide range of thicknesses and densities to suit most requirements. CE marked to EN 13162 and Euroclass A1 non-combustible.

CLADDING

• RAINSCREEN DUO SLAB®

RAINSCREEN DUO SLAB® is a stone wool insulation product specifically developed for use within ventilated cladding systems, as well as sealed systems such as curtain walling. Manufactured using Dual Density technology, the outer surface of each slab features a distinctly higher density than the underside. This provides a firm and robust surface for the application of fixings, while the resilient underside can accommodate unevenness in the substrate. Once installed, the higher density outer surface works in combination with a factory-applied water repelling agent to give improved resistance to rain ingress during construction. The product can be easily fitted around brackets and other awkward details, and when tightly butted, adjacent slabs effectively ‘knit’ together to provide a continuous insulating layer, reducing heat losses that would otherwise be caused by gaps.

Applications

RAINSCREEN DUO SLAB is suitable for use on the following construction types:

• CLADDING ROLL

ROCKWOOL Cladding Roll is a lightweight flexible mat which delivers a combination of thermal insulation and acoustic absorption. Manufactured from stone wool, ROCKWOOL Cladding Roll achieves Euroclass A1 and is non-combustible. The product can be supplied with an aluminium facing for additional tensile strength.

Applications

ROCKWOOL Cladding Roll is principally designed for use in lightweight cladding applications in commercial or industrial framed buildings.

• EXTERNAL WALL DD SLAB

External Wall Dual Density Slab is a stone wool insulation specifically developed for use in external wall insulation systems. Made using a ROCKWOOL-patented ‘dual density’ manufacturing process, the top layer of each slab has a distinctly higher density than the core of the product. This provides a robust outer surface for applying render and accepting fixings, while the resilient underside can accommodate unevenness in the substrate. To aid installation the top layer is branded with ‘THIS SIDE UP’, allowing for quick and easy identification of the outer surface.

• SP FIRESTOP OSCB

Exclusively designed and tested for use only in conjunction with ROCKWOOL RAINSCREEN DUO SLAB, SP Firestop OSCB forms an open-state cavity barrier within the building facade, which allows for ventilation and drainage of the cavity under service conditions. The product comprises a continuous intumescent strip fixed to the leading edge of a foil faced stone wool barrier, encapsulated by a weather-resistant polythene sleeve. Fully tested to ASFP TGD 19, the combination of non-combustible insulation with effective intumescent, supports the construction of safe façade systems and aids the design of high-rise buildings over 18m in height.

Applications

SP Firestop OSCB is suitable for use within ventilated façade systems.

• TIMBER FRAME SLAB

ROCKWOOL Timber Frame Slab is a semi-rigid insulation designed specifically for use between the studwork of external timber frame walls. The slabs have been optimised to offer a low thermal conductivity, A1 fire resistance and outstanding sound absorption. When building with timber, using noncombustible ROCKWOOL insulation can help to reduce the risk of fire, and fire spread, particularly during the more vulnerable construction phase. Tested to BS EN 13501-1, achieving the best possible Euroclass reaction to fire classification of A1, Timber Frame Slab acts as a barrier to fire, able to withstand temperatures over 1,000Celcius and, importantly, does not produce toxic smoke. ROCKWOOL stone wool insulation is also a highly effective thermal insulator, helping to keep the heat in, and the cold out. Timber Frame Slab has been tested to BS EN 13162, achieving a thermal conductivity of 0.034 W/mK, at a low product weight, to assist in handling and installation. Compose of thousands of high density stone wool fibres, Timber Frame Slab traps sound waves and absorbs vibration, helping to prevent unwanted noise from disturbing comfort. The Timber Frame Slab will also repel liquid water, but allow water vapour to pass through, enabling the construction to breathe, reducing the risk of condensation, which can lead to rot, mould and humidity damage.

Application

ROCKWOOL Timber Frame Slab has been designed specifically for quick and easy installation into the standard size 600mm (on centre) studs, of external timber frame walls. This means the insulation takes less time to install, is a more reliable and long-lasting fit, and that the performance does not diminish over the lifetime of the building.

• STEEL FRAME SLAB

ROCKWOOL Steel Frame Slab is a semi-rigid insulation designed specifically for use between the studs in light gauge steel frame walls. The slabs deliver insulation with optimised density and performance; offering a low thermal conductivity, exceptional resistance to fire and outstanding sound absorption.

Applications

ROCKWOOL Steel Frame Slab has been designed specifically for quick and easy installation into standard size 600mm steel studs. This means less time to install, and a more reliable and long-lasting fit.

• FIREPRO® SOFTSEAL COATED STRIPS

FIREPRO® SoftSeal System incorporates a product specifically designed to accommodate movement within buildings in penetration seals. A FIREPRO® SoftSeal Coated Strip comprises a low-density stone wool SoftSeal Lamella Strip, pre-coated with SoftSeal Flexible Coating. FIREPRO® SoftSeal Coated Strip is intended to reinstate the fire resistance, acoustic and air seal performances of concrete floors, masonry walls and dry wall systems when voids have been created for the passage of services. This includes pipes made of steel, cast iron, copper, polypropylene (PP), high density polythene (HDPE), PVC and ABS along with all sheathed cables up to 80mm and supported cable bundles up to 100mm. The FIREPRO® SoftSeal Coated Strip is supplied in strips 1200mm x 200mm x 100mm.

Applications

As part of the comprehensive ROCKWOOL FIREPRO® range of fire protection products, FIREPRO® SoftSeal System incorporates a product specifically designed to apply to penetration seals within buildings, where the design needs to accommodate movement in the services. The FIREPRO® SoftSeal System can be installed into apertures within masonry or drywall partitions as a standalone seal for openings up to 1000mm x 1000mm or as part of a larger ROCKWOOL Ablative Coated Batt seal (2 layers) to accommodate movement of services.

FLAT ROOF 

• HARDROCK®  MULTI-FIX (DD)

ROCKWOOL HARDROCK® Multi-Fix (DD) is a stone wool insulation board faced with a mineral-coated white fleece, compatible with a wide range of adhered and mechanically fixed waterproofing systems - including bitumen, single-ply, EPDM and liquid membranes, as well as green roof systems.

ROCKWOOL HARDROCK Multi-Fix (DD) Tapered is a non-combustible and BBA-approved insulation board, fabricated to a fall for effective management of rainwater. The product is engineered to a fall for effective rain water management. Manufactured from volcanic stone, HARDROCK Multi-Fix (DD) Tapered achieves Euroclass A2-s1, d0 (non-combustible).

• HARDROCK®  MULTI-FIX  ANGLE FILLET

HARDROCK® Multi-Fix Angle Fillet have been designed to fully support the waterproof membrane at 90° abutments, providing a smooth transition between the horizontal and vertical interface. The product is manufactured with an integral mineral-coated glass fibre fleece, which secures a strong bond between membrane and insulation for both hot and cold applied bituminous membrane systems.

Applications

For use with bituminous or GRP waterproofing systems in conjunction with ROCKWOOL HARDROCK® Multi-Fix flat roof insulation boards.

• HARDROCK®  MULTI-FIX  RECOVERY BOARD

HARDROCK® Multi-Fix Recovery Board has been specifically developed for use on flat roof refurbishment projects. HARDROCK® Multi-Fix Recovery Board is manufactured with an integral mineral coated glass fibre fleece, which for adhered membranes, secures a strong bond between membrane and insulation whilst limiting the amount of adhesive required. HARDROCK® Multi-Fix Recovery Board is compatible with all commonly used flat roof membranes including:

• ACOUSTIC INFILL

ROCKWOOL Acoustic Infills combine optimal density, random fibre orientation and excellent fit to provide a significant improvement in sound absorption when used within the troughs of perforated metal roof decks. The product is wrapped in a factory-applied acoustically-transparent white tissue facing for improved aesthetics. For the best performance, we recommend using in combination with ROCKWOOL HARDROCK® Multi-Fix roofing boards.

Applications

ROCKWOOL Acoustic Infills are used across all sectors, including commercial, industrial, leisure, health and educational. They are used to control noise in convention and sports halls, swimming pools, manufacturing plants, meeting areas, food courts and indoor concourses.

• ACOUSTIC MEMBRANE

ROCKWOOL Acoustic Membrane is a flexible, high-density polymer mass layer. The product, when combined with ROCKWOOL insulation products, offers both high performing and economic acoustic solutions for flat roofing and built-up metal roofing systems. An ideal acoustic solution for buildings requiring high levels of acoustic performance.

• ACOUSTIC INTUMESCENT SEALANT

Acoustic Intumescent Sealant is a high specification, one part water based acrylic sealant. Acoustic Intumescent Sealant is designed for use in the installation of ROCKWOOL Ablative Coated Batt, sealing linear joints and some individual service penetrations passing through various substrates.

• HARDROCK® UB34

HARDROCK® UB34 is a Non-combustible insulation solution for upstands and parapet walls. Consisting of a dense ROCKWOOL insulation slab bonded to a rigid 6mm exterior grade fibre cement board, this non-combustible product provides an impact and weather-resistant insulation solution for flat roof upstands and parapet walls.

APPLICATIONS

The product is for use as a thermal insulation layer for upstands and parapet walls on warm flat and inverted roofs made of concrete, timber or metal structure decks, in new and existing, domestic and non-domestic applications.

FLOOR 

• ACOUSTIC ROCKFLOOR®

The ROCKFLOOR® range comprises of two product families; Thermal ROCKFLOOR® and Acoustic ROCKFLOOR®. Thermal ROCKFLOOR® is a dual density insulation providing thermal performance for ground floors. Acoustic ROCKFLOOR® delivers impact sound protection for intermediate and separating floors.

ROCKWOOL ROCKFLOOR® is designed for use in thermal applications, to meet Building Regulations Part L, in ground floors, and for acoustic applications, to meet Building Regulations Part E, in intermediate and separating floors. 

• ROCKWOOL FLEXI®

ROCKWOOL FLEXI® is a multi-use, thermal, acoustic and fire insulation product with a unique flexible edge along one side. The patented flexible edge ensures a perfect fit is maintained between the product and its supporting framework for easy installation and optimum effectiveness. FLEXI® is suitable for use between frames in walls, partitions, floors and roofs, without the need for cutting or waste. Made from renewable volcanic rock, it is extremely fire resistant and significantly reduces the carbon footprint of a building.
