Safeboard (Radiation Shielding Panel) 12.5mm x 625mm x 2400mm is an ideal solution for a wide range of applications within the healthcare sector where consistent, reliable and proven protection to x-rays radiation is required.
Knauf Safeboard removes the need for lead altogether, a unique X-ray resistant plasterboard reduces both the weight of the partition, and the health and safety risks to those involved in handling and installation.
This patentet X-Ray Resistant Plasterboard is installed in the same way as standard plasterboards, simplying both design and installation, reducing time, labour and wasate costs when compared with a lead lined plasterboards.
When used as part of a Knauf system, Safeboard will also give up to 60 minutes of fire protection without the need for additional components.
This board should be used in conjunction with Knauf Safeboard Filler, plasters, fixings, plasterboard adhesive and metal systems to receive the Knauf Systems Warranty.
Safeboard reduces overall mass versus a similar lead lined partition whilst maintaining its unique performance.
X-Ray Resistant Plasterboard is available in tapered edge board profile.
Knauf Safeboard Installation is very easy, this board can be treated in the same way as other plasterboards.

Safeboard X-Ray Resistant Plasterboard Knauf Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
· How to specify Knauf Safeboard X-Ray Resistant Plasterboard?
· How many Safeboard layers?
Understandably, shielding X-rays requires special consideration, please ensure that where necessary you engage a Radiation Protection Advisor.
If it’s a larger project, it’s likely it will require an accompanying Radiation Protection Report that gives a “lead code”, which relates to the thickness of lead required.
Where Knauf Safeboard differs to lead is that there are differing requirements based on the output of the X-ray source (measured in kV).
You might need just a little as one layer of Safeboard or that many as 6 layers to achieve code 7 for example.
· What is the weight of the board?
25.5kg per 2400mm x 625mm x 12.5mm sheet (17kg per m²).
· What is the colour of the board?
Grey paper facings with a yellowish gypsum core.
· What fire rating does the board give?
Fire resistance performance is tested using the complete Knauf system such as a partition wall, ceiling or floor, and it is the complete Knauf system that will achieve a fire rating.
This means the board alone cannot be given a fire rating.
Gypsum is classified as a non-combustible material.
· What acoustic performance does the board give?
Safeboards has been acoustically tested on a full Knauf system; it is the system that will achieve an acoustic rating.
· What edge profiles are available?
Unlike most of our boards, this has a rounded tapered edge.
Use Knauf Joint Filler to fill the joints.
· What is the acceptable moisture content?
If the board has been exposed or semi-exposed for a brief period, it is common for those inspecting it to use a damp proof meter such as a Protimeter.
It is recommended as a rule of thumb that the board should be suspected of lasting damage if the reading exceeds 16-18.
Below 16 is acceptable.
· What is the maximum temperature that the board can withstand?
Safeboard can withstand 50°C.
· What are the manufacturing board size tolerances?
In accordance to EN 520:2004 Knauf manufacturers its board to the below tolerances: Width +0/-4mm, Length +0/-5mm, Thickness +0/-5mm.
· What is the maximum finish weight that can be applied to the board?
The maximum finish weight that can be applied to the board is 32kg per m².
· Is the safeboard lead lined?
Knauf Safeboard is not lead lined plasterboard.
Safeboard has Barium Sulphate in its core.
· What do I use to joint this product?
You should use Knauf Safeboard Joint Filler.
You need to joint every layer of Safeboard (board joints and screws heads), ensuring joints are staggered.
You do not need to tape the joints.

INSTALLERS
No matter whether you choose a local installer or a national company, there’s a few tips to help you find the right installer for your home insulation improvements, such as asking for recommendations and making sure that they’re part of a certification scheme. This makes sure that they have the right skills and standards of workmanship to carry out the installation, and you can be sure that they know exactly what they are doing.
4 TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE BEST INSULATION INSTALLER
1. Thermal inspection picture in portfolio
It’s worth seeing a installer’s previous work. There’s no harm asking if you can see any properties nearby that they’ve installed insulation in. Best way would be to see Infrared Thermal Imaging Inspections. Thermal cameras spot small, but key changes in temperature in different areas of a house, identifying problematic areas that the human eye never could and some that a visual inspection could only hypothesize.
2. Reviews
Along with checking recommendations and previous work, finding reviews online can often be a great way to find out if they provide a good service or not. However, it’s best not to solely rely on reviews you may find or review websites, as there’s no controlling who writes them.
3. Compare prices
Comparing prices will also ensure companies can’t take advantage of you and give you a fair price.
4. Word of Mouth
The best way to find a great insulation installer is through recommendations. Make sure you ask friends and family. They will most likely give you their honest opinion and can tell you from first hand experience.
Whether you require a wall, cladding, external wall, loft or floor insulation fitted, you can find and hire your local insulation installers from popular UK web pages. A simple internet search will return thousands of potential installers near your area.
