Largely manufactured from recycled glass (e.g. windscreens) and mineral base materials such as sand and without the use of binding agents. The ingredients are melted into molten glass, which is cooled and crushed into a fine powder. The powdered glass is poured into molds and heated (below the melting point) in a "sintering" process that causes the particles to adhere to one another. Next, a small amount of finely ground carbon-black is added and the material is heated in a "cellulation" process. Here, the carbon reacts with oxygen, creating carbon dioxide, which creates the insulating bubbles in the (material). CO2 accounts for more than 99% of the gas in the cellular spaces.
Cellulose insulation is a material made from recycled newspaper. The paper is shredded and inorganic salts, such as boric acid, are added for resistance to fire, mould, insects and vermin. The insulation is installed either blown or damp-sprayed depending on application.
Wood fibre
The success of wood fibre insulation derives from an attractive environmental profile combined with a whole bag of functions including rigid insulation, sheathing and sarking for timber frames, roofs and flooring as well as flexible insulation for studs and rafters.
Wood of course is renewable, it sequesters carbon during its growth and product production is relatively free from pollution. The insulation value of wood fibre boards is not as dimensionally efficient as some of the orthodox petro-chemical materials - but it's no slouch either - typically coming in with a 'k value' range of between 0.038-0.043 W/mK depending on format.
Hemp
Hemp fibres are produced from hemp straw of the hemp plant. Most hemp is imported, but an increasing amount of home-grown crop is becoming available. Hemp grows up to a height of nearly 4 metres within a period of 100-120 days. Because the plants shade the soil, no chemical protection or toxic additives are required for hemp cultivation. The product is composed of, usually, 85% hemp fibre with the ballance made up of polyester binding and 3-5% soda added for fire proofing.
Straw
Straw is an agricultural by-product, the dry stalks of cereal plants, after the grain and chaff have been removed. Straw makes up about half of the yield of cereal crops such asbarley, oats, rice, rye and wheat.
Cedral® Click is a fibre cement plank designed to clad exterior walls as an alternative to traditional timber or PVCu weatherboarding. ‘Click’ refers to one of two jointing methods created by the most experienced company in the weatherboard cladding field named Cedral®. Boards are simply flat joined in the same way as ‘tongue and groove' connection. The boards slot together neatly and simply thanks to a tongue (the protruding section) and groove (the slot). The strength created by the interlocking Click panels is one of the most impressive aspects to cladding. This connection profile is a fantastic choice for anyone looking to build a very sturdy structure. The added friction between boards prevents movement and makes an exceptionally sturdy structure. Due to its excellent resistance to moisture, the material is not afraid of the negative effects of heavy rainfall and increased dampness, therefore it is one of the more popular cladding profiles out there. Its uniform chamfer allows panels to join together to make a flatter cladding surface, with a shadow line creating distinction between boards. The biggest difference in installation is that tongue and groove click panelling actually fits together like puzzle pieces instead of overlapping. System panels don't move due to temperature changes (unlike PVC or wood). It is ideal for both new builds and refurbishment projects, especially where time constraints are a factor.
It is easy to install and maintain. It adds a contemporary appearance to the property. Thanks to the “Click Clip System” it is possible to arrange the click cladding boards in different angles and orientations. The manufacturer provides a warranty not only for the products, but also for their colouring for a period of 10 years. The manufacturer claims that the product retains all the declared characteristics for 50 years.
With the use of fibre cement siding you will not encounter loud noise that occurs during strong gusts of wind, rain or hail.
HOW IS CEDRAL® CLICK BOARD MANUFACTURED?
Cedral® boards are manufactured using laboratory method simulating the ”Hatschek Process”. The Hatshek process consists of the formation of thin “paper-like films that are placed one on the other until the desired sheet thickness is reached”. Generally speaking cladding boards are made of:
Portland Cement – binds all the ingredients.
Cellulose fibres – sourced from sustainable reserves, act as filter fibres.
Synthetic fibres – used as reinforcing fibres.
Sand – used for its resilience and weather performance.
Water – brings it all together and activates the hardening process of the cement.
Cedral® weatherboards also have an excellent fire-resistance rating of A2-s1, d0. This means they are non-flammable, so in the event of a fire they will barely generate any smoke and will not spread fire. The Cedral® siding boards are available in all 21 standard painted finishes and also the 2 finishes - either smooth or wood grain. Planks are manufactured in 3600mm lengths by 186mm width and 12mm thickness. Tongue and groove boards can be placed horizontally or vertically. Each Click board will cover 167mm giving a cover width of 0.59m2 per board. It is recommended to allow 1.64 boards per m2. You will require 2 boards to cover 1.19m2.

White boards reflect light and will actually appear to vary in tone throughout the day.
2. Cedral® Beige C02
The Cedral® Beige colour is dependable and conservative. The colour Beige is neutral, calm, and relaxing. It offers some of the warmth of the colour brown and some of the crisp and coolness of the colour white. However, while it is a relaxing colour, Beige is often seen as a dull and boring colour.
3. Cedral® Grey Brown C03
This combined colour is also known as an earth colour. It is associated with reliability, elegance, foundations and stability. While it is sometimes considered dull, it also represents simplicity, dependability and health. Grey brown is believed to help create a wholesome feeling. 4. Cedral® Grey C05
The Cedral® Grey has so many natural and wonderful undertones that really come to life in the right lighting. 6. Cedral® Dark Grey C15

CEDRAL® CLICK VS LAP
If you check out the edges of planks for each panelling system, you’ll spot the difference between them right away. Cedral® Lap cladding is designed to look like the overlapping boards used throughout history to build the hull of ships. However, if a more modern design element is priority, Click board might be your best choice. If you’re drawn to the appearance of one profile over the other, that should really be the deciding factor. Both systems represent a beautiful and secure cladding profile choice. Before discussing the differences between the two styles, it is helpful to understand the way they fit together. Lap boards connect together similarly but each plank has an added overlap at the bottom when laid horizontally giving a repeating step.
The notch on one side of the plank will be on the upper edge, while the other side of the plank is notched on the lower edge. During installation, these notches fit together like little steps, so the shiplap planks very slightly overlap, in what is called a Lap joint.
For installations that need to withstand harsh elements and heavy rainfall, Lap is the preferable option. Cedral® Lap cladding is chosen in a wood textured finish. Unlike Cedral Lap, each plank of Cedral Click has a groove on one edge and a corresponding thin projecting ridge on the other (the tongue). When two planks are pushed together, the tongue ‘click’ into the groove along their length to give a strong join with no need for glues- hence the name. The individual planks fit together almost seamlessly, making them perfect for plain wooden cladding on modern wall panelling.
It’s a little easier to install Lap planks than Click. It is because you needn’t fit the boards together. Instead, you simply match the notches on neighbouring boards and then pound a nail straight through the overlap. Installing Click requires more precise screwing, as you’ll need to screw invisible clips for secure results.
Both connection systems are made of the same multilayer fibre structure, however their thicknesses vary. Cedral® Lap starter creates an overall thickness of 21mm leaving a 10mm gap on the bottom. On the other hand, the Cedral® Click starter profile creates only 13mm (12mm board+1mm aluminium starter profile). That gives us 8mm of difference. While Click board prevents water seeping through joins and into the structure, Lap is even more waterproof. The overhanging 30mm lip prevents backflow of water through the boards. For use in areas with particularly high rainfall, this gives it a clear edge in weatherproofing.
If the choice is mainly an aesthetic one based on looks, Lap system may be a more cost effective option. Why? According to our current Cedral price list average costs are £43,29 (ex VAT) per metre squared for Cedral® Lap and £59,12 (ex VAT) per metre squared for Cedral® Click (excluding trims and accessories). For those on a particularly tight budget, simple Lap cladding may be worth considering. Depending on the system, average Cedral cladding may vary from £4000 to £7700. This includes material but no labour costs. Cedral® is distributed through stockists. Any pricing should be checked with the nearest Cedral® stockists. Costs of Cedral® boards may vary depending on the supplier. All can be found here
