What causes a thermal bridge?

Thermal bridges are junctions where insulation is not continuous and causes heat loss. The main problem for installers, thermal bridges have an impact on the energy loss percentage if the house is well insulated. A thermal bridge, also called a cold bridgeheat bridge, or thermal bypass, is an area or component of an object which has higher thermal conductivity than the surrounding materials, creating a path of least resistance for heat transfer.
