VOID FORMER THICKNESSES*

Depending on application, void formers come in multiple name options, including under beam, under slab or side protection.

Void former can be supplied as a block, slab or bespoke shaped pieces to suit the application or project. Standard board sizes are 2400mm x 1200mm up to a depth of 1200mm.

UNDER BEAM THICKNESSES

Under beam such as Cordek® Cellcore HX B, Max-frank Pecavoid® Plus+, RD, C or Jablite® is a lightweight expanded polystyrene (EPS) block designed for use beneath reinforced concrete ground beams and pile caps to protect against the potential effects of ground heave. It is made of moulded collection cellular legs with twin fluted polyproylene top. 

It is available in strips 2400mm long and widths from 300 to 1200mm in increments of 25mm to suit the associated beam and in overall depths of 85, 155 and 220mm.

Grades are specially calculated and calibrated for deformation of EPS under loading. The appropriate product grade is selected according to the maximum thickness of wet concrete that the product will be required to support during construction of the project.

UNDER SLAB THICKNESSES

Under slab void former, also called ‘anti-heave’ board is often a lightweight structural material made of continuous paper honeycomb or EPS polystyrene core developed to separate concrete slabs from reactive soil which can potentially exert damaging pressure on the structural foundations of a dwelling and to replace some of the volume of concrete (screed) in applications such as floors.
Under slab void former sheets are available in a variety of depths including: 60mm, 85mm, 90mm, 110mm, 160mm, 225mm and standard grades 7/10, 8/12, 9/13, 10/15, 13/18, 13/19, 15/22, 18/24, 24/32.

CLAY HEAVE PROTECTION BOARD THICKNESSES

Clay heave protection board known as a 'low density compressible side panel' such as Claymaster, Clayfill, Claylite or Heaveguard is a fill material used for vertical installation against the sides of ground beams, piled foundations and deep trench fill foundations (up to 2m deep) to prevent problems in foundations where the soil has a high clay content and is liable to heave.
Panels are delivered either in size 2400mm x 1200mm (8' x 4') or 2400mm x 600mm (8' x 2'). The required thickness of the board will vary depending on the potential ground movement and the allowable pressure limit of the foundation substrate.
