35mm VERMICULUX-S Promat Fire Protection Board is a moisture resistant, A1 non-combustible board which provides up to 240 minutes fire protection for buildings storing high value items or assets, including museums and data centres.

VERMICULUX-S is used to protect one, two, three or four sided encasements to universal columns and beams, joists and RSJs, hollow sections, bracing, lattice and perimeter beams, beams supporting composite floors, metal decking and wind posts.

Promat VERMICULUX-S can be used in projects requiring additional fire safety measures to protect the public and employees from the risk of a major fire and in the early construction phase when the building is not weathertight.

This unique fire protection board has permanent dimensional stability, so in the event of a fire it reduces the speed at which the steelwork will heat up, allowing it to maintain its load bearing capacity for longer.

Promat VERMICULUX-S 35mm is fully tested at limiting temperatures from 350ºC to 750°C and can be used where the fire protection system is in full view and where it is hidden.

It offers the specifier a clean, boxed appearance and can be applied on unpainted steelwork in a single or double layer, according to requirements of the project.

Vermiculux-S by Promat is often a thinner solution in comparison with other fire-resistant constructions.

This board can also accept a decorative finish and therefore be used where aesthetics are important.

Finishing Promat VERMICULUX-S Boards (Plastering and Painting):

 · All calcium silicate boards have a high suction and therefore it is generally difficult to apply gypsum plaster.

 · Plastering boards: If a skim coat is desired, apply a sealing coat of diluted universal primer/PVA (e.g. 1 part PVA and 5 parts water).

 · Sealing coat should be allowed to dry thoroughly (approximately 24 hours).

 · Apply a bonding coat (3 parts PVA and 1 part water).

 · Apply plaster skim (5mm thick) while the bonding coat is wet and tacky.

 · It is recommended that a small test area is plastered initially to ensure that the boards have been adequately sealed.

 · It is advisable that self-adhesive or hessian scrim is applied over joints and internal angles.

 · The plaster manufacturers’ recommendations should be followed at all times.

 · Promat boards have an attractive, smooth finish but if required they can be painted with emulsion or water based paints.

 · With water based paints, a diluted first coat should be used.

 · All coatings should be supplied by a reputable manufacturer and their recommendations regarding surface preparation, sealing and finish coat should be followed at all times.

 · Paper scrim is not recommended for the boards.

No matter whether you choose a local installer or a national company, there’s a few tips to help you find the right installer for your home insulation improvements, such as asking for recommendations and making sure that they’re part of a certification scheme. This makes sure that they have the right skills and standards of workmanship to carry out the installation, and you can be sure that they know exactly what they are doing.

1. Thermal inspection picture in portfolio

It’s worth seeing a installer’s previous work. There’s no harm asking if you can see any properties nearby that they’ve installed insulation in. Best way would be to see Infrared Thermal Imaging Inspections. Thermal cameras spot small, but key changes in temperature in different areas of a house, identifying problematic areas that the human eye never could and some that a visual inspection could only hypothesize.

2. Reviews

Along with checking recommendations and previous work, finding reviews online can often be a great way to find out if they provide a good service or not. However, it’s best not to solely rely on reviews you may find or review websites, as there’s no controlling who writes them.

3. Compare prices

Comparing prices will also ensure companies can’t take advantage of you and give you a fair price.

4. Word of Mouth

The best way to find a great insulation installer is through recommendations. Make sure you ask friends and family. They will most likely give you their honest opinion and can tell you from first hand experience.

Whether you require a wall, cladding, external wall, loft or floor insulation fitted, you can find and hire your local insulation installers from popular UK web pages. A simple internet search will return thousands of potential installers near your area.
