90mm Kingspan Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board (1200mm x 450mm) is a premium performance rigid thermoset fibre-free phenolic insulation core factory bonded to a water-tight, vapour-open polypropylene fleece and to a inner facing of a low emissivity composite foil.

K106 Cavity Board 90mm is specifically designed to limit thermal bridging and uncontrolled air leakage through the junctions in cavity wall constructions.

A 10mm residual cavity width is recommended between the insulation and the outer leaf for walls up to 25 metres in height.

The NHBC accepts the use of Kingspan Kooltherm K106 Full Fill Cavity Board with a 10mm residual cavity, except for fair faced masonry applications in areas of very severe exposure.

Kingspan Kooltherm K106 Cavity Board is an easy to handle and install insulation, unlikely to become ignited within the cavity.

If fire does penetrate into an unventilated cavity, the amount of air present will be insufficient to support combustion, and flame spread will be minimal.

Kingspan K106 is one of the thinnest commonly used insulation for full fill cavity walls, certified as 'very good' to Framework Standard for the Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products.

Full Fill Cavity Kooltherm K106 is manufactured with a blowing agent that has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and low Global Warming Potential (GWP).

The use of Kingspan Kooltherm® K106 is covered by BBA Certificate 16/5299.

Its very low thermal conductivity can help save money on overall construction costs.

Kooltherm K106 is an advanced full-fill cavity wall insulation board with an excellent thermal conductivity of 0.019 W/mK across all thicknesses.

Kingspan Kooltherm K106 Cavity Insulation Board Installation:

 · K106 is normally held in position by the wall ties used to tie the two skins of masonry together (wall ties should include a retaining disc of a thickness 10mm)

 · For a solid concrete ground floor the first row of wall ties are installed in the inner leaf at 600mm horizontal centres.

 · A minimum of one course of blockwork below the damp proof course, or 150mm below the top surface of the ground floor perimeter insulation upstand, whichever is the lower.

 · For a suspended timber floor the first row of wall ties are installed in the inner leaf at 600mm horizontal centres a minimum of 200mm below the top surface of the ground floor perimeter insulation upstand.

 · Continue constructing the inner leaf up to the next wall tie course (450mm above the first usually 2 block courses).

 · The next course of wall ties is positioned at the usual 900mm horizontal centres.

 · The next course of blockwork is installed to secure the ties.

 · The first row of insulation boards should now be installed between the two rows of wall ties, ensuring each insulation board is retained tight against the inner leaf and joints are lightly butted.

 · Each board should be secured at a minimum of three points.

 · A self adhesive breathable wraptite tape, no less than 100mm wide, should be applied to all horizontal and vertical joints, board edges and abutting junction interfaces.

 · The tape should be applied in a smooth and wrinkle free manner and should extend no less than 50mm either side of joints, board edges and abutting junction interfaces.

 · The seal must be maintained at protrusion locations e.g. wall ties.

 · The outer leaf is then built up to the level of the top of the boards and the process is repeated.

 · When insulating a gable, insulation boards should be continued 200mm beyond the height of the top storey ceiling and a cavity tray installed above the insulation.

 · After raising each section of inner leaf, before installation of the insulation board, excess mortar should be removed and mortar droppings cleaned from exposed edges of the installed insulation boards.

 · Use of a cavity batten or cavity board to protect board edges and maintain a clear cavity.

 · At the completion of each day of work, or whenever work is interrupted for extended periods of time, board edges and joints should be protected from inclement weather.

Alternatively, you can work it out yourself quickly and easily: to get cost per meter square please divide price shown in orange area by ''Required area (m2)'' Example price of £28.80 divided by board coverage 2.88m2 = cost of £10.00 per m2.

INSTALLERS

No matter whether you choose a local installer or a national company, there’s a few tips to help you find the right installer for your home insulation improvements, such as asking for recommendations and making sure that they’re part of a certification scheme. This makes sure that they have the right skills and standards of workmanship to carry out the installation, and you can be sure that they know exactly what they are doing.

4 TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE BEST INSULATION INSTALLER

1. Thermal inspection picture in portfolio

It’s worth seeing a installer’s previous work. There’s no harm asking if you can see any properties nearby that they’ve installed insulation in. Best way would be to see Infrared Thermal Imaging Inspections. Thermal cameras spot small, but key changes in temperature in different areas of a house, identifying problematic areas that the human eye never could and some that a visual inspection could only hypothesize.

2. Reviews

Along with checking recommendations and previous work, finding reviews online can often be a great way to find out if they provide a good service or not. However, it’s best not to solely rely on reviews you may find or review websites, as there’s no controlling who writes them.

3. Compare prices

Comparing prices will also ensure companies can’t take advantage of you and give you a fair price.

4. Word of Mouth

The best way to find a great insulation installer is through recommendations. Make sure you ask friends and family. They will most likely give you their honest opinion and can tell you from first hand experience.

Whether you require a wall, cladding, external wall, loft or floor insulation fitted, you can find and hire your local insulation installers from popular UK web pages. A simple internet search will return thousands of potential installers near your area.
