100mm SR/UF Unilin Floor Insulation Board is a superior performance rigid phenolic foam insulation with enhanced fire performance and composite foil facings, for use in floor applications.

SR/UF provides the most efficient means of floor insulation as it has the strength and thermal properties required to reach the high performance U-values asked for in the Building Regulations.

Unilin Safe-R SR/UF is manufactured to EN 13166 by Unilin Insulation with certified lambda (thermal conductivity) of 0.020 W/mK and Euroclass D s1 d0 fire classification.

The floor in any building is an area of considerable downward heat loss when not properly insulated, SR/UF will significantly improve the U-value of new and existing floors.

SR/UF is lightweight, easy to install and combines high compressive strength with low thermal conductivity, providing a high performance solution for floor insulation.

Safer-R SR/UF is lightweight and suitable for use with underfloor heating, thanks to its thickness to performance ratio, SR/UF allows for reduced insulation thickness.

Floorboard SR/UF should be laid with closely butted joints, laid staggered with a break bonded pattern and fitted tightly at edges and around any service penetrations.

SR/UF is durable, rot proof and sufficiently stable to remain effective as floor insulation for the life of the building.

Unilin SR/UF Phenolic Floor Insulation Board Installation Guidelines:

 · Below Concrete Slab - Lay and level the hardcore in layers 150mm min/250mm max and compact well.

 · Sand blind base to create a level surface and to protect DPM.

 · The damp proof membrane (DPM), normally 1200g polythene or radon barrier, should be laid over the blinding, tape lapped joints to prevent passage of ground moisture.

 · Carry DPM up to the wall to meet and seal with the DPC course (contact the membrane manufacturer for further guidance on installation and best practice).

 · Lay the SR/UF across the DPM, If two layers are required, lay the boards in a staggered jointed pattern and loosely butt all edges.

 · Place Safe-R Perimeter Strips SR/STR around floor perimeter to provide robust detailing in order to reduce thermal bridging.

 · Ensure the top of perimeter strip is level with top of floor finish and seal around any service penetrations.

 · Lay a thin gauge polythene sheet, to act as a separating layer, over the insulation with 150mm lap joints.

 · VCL should be taped at the joints to ensure a continuous separating layer, as per BRE GBG 45 “Insulating Ground Floors”.

 · Pour and compact concrete slab to required finish floor level.

 · Below Floor Screed - Lay and level the concrete slab, allowing sufficient time to dry out, as per BS 8203.

 · Beam and block floors may need a levelling screed or grouting to ensure base level (refer to manufacturer’s guidelines).

 · Lay the SR/UF boards across the DPM, If two layers are required, lay the boards in a staggered jointed pattern and closely butt all edges.

 · Place Unilin Perimeter Strips (SR/STR) around the floor perimeter to provide robust detailing in order to prevent thermal bridging.

 · Ensure top of perimeter strip is level with top of floor finish and eal around any service penetrations.

 · Layer a thin gauge polythene sheet, to act as a separating layer, over the insulation with 150mm lap joints.

 · VCL should be taped at the joints to ensure a continuous separating layer, as per BRE GBG 45 “Insulating Ground Floors”.

 · If underfloor heating is required, lay pipes and clip to SR/UF through the VCL and follow manufacturer’s guidelines.

 · Pour screed according to screed manufacturer’s guidelines.

 · Suspended Timber Floor - Install joists in the normal manner, ensuring adequate ventilation.

 · Measure gaps between joists and cut SR/UF to size, allowing for variations in joist spacings.

 · Mechanically fasten treated timber battens to the joists, allowing for correct thickness of insulation.

 · Galvanised nails or saddle clips may also be used, ensuring nails are left 40mm proud of the joists.

 · Install SR/UF between joists with joints tightly butted and seal any gaps with expanding foam.

 · If two insulation layers are required, lay the boards in a staggered jointed pattern, also sealing any gaps with expanding foam.

 · Floor boards should be laid directly to the joists.

 · ACDs must be followed to ensure that installation is in accordance with current Building Regulations and accounted for in the energy calculation.

Alternatively, you can work it out yourself quickly and easily: to get cost per meter square please divide price shown in orange area by ''Required area (m2)'' Example price of £28.80 divided by board coverage 2.88m2 = cost of £10.00 per m2.

INSTALLERS

No matter whether you choose a local installer or a national company, there’s a few tips to help you find the right installer for your home insulation improvements, such as asking for recommendations and making sure that they’re part of a certification scheme. This makes sure that they have the right skills and standards of workmanship to carry out the installation, and you can be sure that they know exactly what they are doing.

4 TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE BEST INSULATION INSTALLER

1. Thermal inspection picture in portfolio

It’s worth seeing a installer’s previous work. There’s no harm asking if you can see any properties nearby that they’ve installed insulation in. Best way would be to see Infrared Thermal Imaging Inspections. Thermal cameras spot small, but key changes in temperature in different areas of a house, identifying problematic areas that the human eye never could and some that a visual inspection could only hypothesize.

2. Reviews

Along with checking recommendations and previous work, finding reviews online can often be a great way to find out if they provide a good service or not. However, it’s best not to solely rely on reviews you may find or review websites, as there’s no controlling who writes them.

3. Compare prices

Comparing prices will also ensure companies can’t take advantage of you and give you a fair price.

4. Word of Mouth

The best way to find a great insulation installer is through recommendations. Make sure you ask friends and family. They will most likely give you their honest opinion and can tell you from first hand experience.

Whether you require a wall, cladding, external wall, loft or floor insulation fitted, you can find and hire your local insulation installers from popular UK web pages. A simple internet search will return thousands of potential installers near your area.
