Ceresit ZU Adhesive and Reinforcing Mortar (25kg Base Coat Render) is a two-in-one product designed to secure polystyrene boards and fiberglass mesh within a complex system of external walls insulation

ZU is flexible and durable powder, used for fixing expanded polystyrene (EPS) boards and for making a reinforced protective layer.

ZU should be poured into the measured amount of cool clean water and stirred with the drill by means of a mixer until the homogenous mass is obtained without lumps.

Mixed mortar should be applied 2mm to 3mm layer on EPS boards using smooth, steel trowel.

Faster or slower setting of the mortar may occur in different weather conditions.

For mesh reinforcing protective layer 10cm overlaps should be kept to avoid cracking.

The properly applied ZU mortar when pressed should cover minimum 40% of the boards.

Protection of scaffolding during application is recommended.

The applied layer should be protected from rain.

1. Fixing EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) boards

The ready mortar should be applied with a trowel along the board edges forming a strip of 3÷4 cm wide and a few spots with the diameter of approx. 8 cm.

Then immediately, the board should be pressed to the wall with a few slight blows of a long float.

The properly applied mortar when pressed should cover minimum 40% of its surface.

In case of even, smooth substrates the mortar should be applied by means of a toothed long float (teeth 10mm - 12 mm).

The boards should be fixed tightly one at the other in one surface with the preservation of ”brick like manner” of vertical connection.

2. Preparing the reinforced layer

Prepared mortar should be applied 2-3 mm layer on EPS-boards using smooth, steel trowel.

On fresh layer glass fibre net should be set (10 cm overlaps should be kept).

Then the next layer can be applied (thickness 1 mm) and smoothed in order to net wasn’t visible.

Fresh stains should be cleaned with water while hardened elements should be mechanically removed only.

Key Points:

 · Flexible

 · Durable

 · 2 in 1 product

 · Good adhesion

 · Resistant to weather conditions

Assumed consumption:

 · Fixing boards: approx. 5.0 kg/m2

 · Reinforced layer: approx. 4.0 kg/m2

 · Approx. coverage 4-6m2 per bag

Important:

During preparing the reinforced layer work on sunny walls is inadvisable.

Application should be performed in dry conditions with the substrate and ambient temperature from +5°C to +25°C.

All the data refer to the temperature of +20°C and relative air humidity of 60%.

ZU powder mortar shows irritated properties and cement and lime content causes alkali reaction when mixed with water.

Therefore skin and eyes should be protected. In case of contact with eyes, they should be rinsed with water and the general practitioner should be consulted.

INSTALLERS

No matter whether you choose a local installer or a national company, there’s a few tips to help you find the right installer for your home insulation improvements, such as asking for recommendations and making sure that they’re part of a certification scheme. This makes sure that they have the right skills and standards of workmanship to carry out the installation, and you can be sure that they know exactly what they are doing.

4 TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE BEST INSULATION INSTALLER

1. Thermal inspection picture in portfolio

It’s worth seeing a installer’s previous work. There’s no harm asking if you can see any properties nearby that they’ve installed insulation in. Best way would be to see Infrared Thermal Imaging Inspections. Thermal cameras spot small, but key changes in temperature in different areas of a house, identifying problematic areas that the human eye never could and some that a visual inspection could only hypothesize.

2. Reviews

Along with checking recommendations and previous work, finding reviews online can often be a great way to find out if they provide a good service or not. However, it’s best not to solely rely on reviews you may find or review websites, as there’s no controlling who writes them.

3. Compare prices

Comparing prices will also ensure companies can’t take advantage of you and give you a fair price.

4. Word of Mouth

The best way to find a great insulation installer is through recommendations. Make sure you ask friends and family. They will most likely give you their honest opinion and can tell you from first hand experience.

Whether you require a wall, cladding, external wall, loft or floor insulation fitted, you can find and hire your local insulation installers from popular UK web pages. A simple internet search will return thousands of potential installers near your area.
