EWI-301 Water Based Substrate Primer 5l is a priming paint used to prepare the wall before installing external wall insulation or render-only systems.

Water Based Primer dries completely colourless and limits the absorptive capacity of the substrate, while simultaneously strengthening and stabilising dusty substrates.

It also provides enhanced adhesion for the application of paint or render coats, helping to ensure a long-lasting finish.

EWI-301 is designed for priming various absorptive substrates including ordinary and cellular concrete (e.g. aerated concrete), walls made of bricks, blocks and structural clay tiles, plaster coats, gypsum panels and gypsum plasterboards.

It is applied to the substrate prior to the application of paints, adhesives, cement or cement and lime-based plaster coats, skim finish products, ceramic tiling, floor screeds and even wallpapers.

Water Based Primer comes ready-to-use in 5 litre plastic jerry cans.

Specification:

EWI-301 Water Based Substrate Primer: approx. coverage 25m2

Application: by hand using a roller

Consistency: ready-to-use product

Weight: 5kg

EWI-301 Water Based Substrate Primer Application:

 · For best results, apply using a brush or roller.

 · Each coat should take approximately 2-4 hours to dry.

 · Weak substrates that need to be strengthened and highly absorptive substrates should be re-primed after about 4 hours.

 · Dispersion paints, surface finish products or adhesives should be applied at least 24 hours after priming.

 · Works must not be carried out during rain or snow, in strong winds and in direct sunlight without special protection to limit exposure to weather conditions.

 · Recently rendered coats must be protected against rain, frost and over-rapid drying.

Substrate Preparation for EWI-301 Priming Paint:

 · Prior to priming, remove any loose elements and fragments on substrate.

 · The substrate should be cleaned to ensure that it is free from all substances that may affect adhesion, i.e. dust, oil, grease, anti-adhesive agents, remaining paint, mould, algae, moss, etc.

 · The substrate should be free of cracks and efflorescence, and uniformly dry.

 · All contamination resulting from grease, oil or anti-adhesive agents should be cleaned by washing with a water-containing detergent.

 · Biological contamination should be eliminated, and then cleaned by mechanical action.

 · Scratched and cracked surfaces should be repaired with levelling mortar or another mortar suitable for the substrate.

 · Mortar applied to repaired sites should be dry and well-bonded.

 · Surfaces that will not be primed should be protected prior to priming.

Certification and Standards:

 · PN-C-81913:1998 Dispersion paints for façade painting.

 · European Technical Approvals ETA – 15/0576 and ETA – 15/0575.

 · BBA Approval Inspection Testing Certificate 18/5503.

INSTALLERS

No matter whether you choose a local installer or a national company, there’s a few tips to help you find the right installer for your home insulation improvements, such as asking for recommendations and making sure that they’re part of a certification scheme. This makes sure that they have the right skills and standards of workmanship to carry out the installation, and you can be sure that they know exactly what they are doing.

4 TIPS FOR CHOOSING THE BEST INSULATION INSTALLER

1. Thermal inspection picture in portfolio

It’s worth seeing a installer’s previous work. There’s no harm asking if you can see any properties nearby that they’ve installed insulation in. Best way would be to see Infrared Thermal Imaging Inspections. Thermal cameras spot small, but key changes in temperature in different areas of a house, identifying problematic areas that the human eye never could and some that a visual inspection could only hypothesize.

2. Reviews

Along with checking recommendations and previous work, finding reviews online can often be a great way to find out if they provide a good service or not. However, it’s best not to solely rely on reviews you may find or review websites, as there’s no controlling who writes them.

3. Compare prices

Comparing prices will also ensure companies can’t take advantage of you and give you a fair price.

4. Word of Mouth

The best way to find a great insulation installer is through recommendations. Make sure you ask friends and family. They will most likely give you their honest opinion and can tell you from first hand experience.

Whether you require a wall, cladding, external wall, loft or floor insulation fitted, you can find and hire your local insulation installers from popular UK web pages. A simple internet search will return thousands of potential installers near your area.
